Outdoor wedding cocktail hour in a Sperry Tent at Wentworth

Wentworth by the Sea Country Club believes the beauty of your wedding day blooms from the beautiful details. The Wedding & Events Team understands the importance of choosing a florist to help bring your vision board to life, which is why they reached out to local florists Anne Marshall (Distinct Floral Designs) and Lynn Curcio (F as in Flowers) to provide their professional insight about wedding florals!

Meet the Florists:

Anne Marshall approaches each wedding arrangement as a unique piece of art, devoting the utmost time and attention to her arrangements. Her creations, ranging from soft classics to organic styles, showcase the beauty of each individual bloom, with attention to textures and finer details. Flowers have been her passion for decades!

Lynn Curcio has built trusted relationships over the last two decades by collaborating with top wedding planners and venue coordinators. Lynn enjoys every aspect of floral design, but particularly loves brainstorming with couples and sharing her extensive experience. Her keen sense of color, texture and artistic details shines through in her lush floral designs that embrace the beauty of nature.

#1. What advice would you give to couples when choosing a florist?

Lynn: Visit a florist’s Instagram and/or website and see what their style is and if it will be a good fit. I also recommend reading any reviews they have on The Knot or Wedding Wire.

#2. When should a couple start reaching out to potential florists?

Lynn: During the peak wedding months of June-October, reaching out a year and a half to a year before the wedding will help in securing a date.

Anne: As soon as a commitment is made to their venue and their color pallet is defined.

#3. What is your ideal timeline?

Lynn: I typically have two in-person design meetings. The first meeting is about a year ahead of the wedding to begin the design process of choosing colors, flowers, vases, candles, etc. to create the overall look and vibe of the wedding. The second design meeting is usually three to four months before the big day to fine-tune and finalize all our ideas.

Anne: Twelve months for a first proposal is optimal, with a three-four month review after the initial booking. The final appointment is four-six weeks before the wedding date.

#4. How would you describe your style?

Anne: I personally lean toward classic style and design.

Lynn: My style is modern romantic with whimsy.

#5. When planning an outdoor ceremony (at venues such as Wentworth by the Sea Country Club), what do couples need to consider?

Lynn: Consider the wind and the stability of the florals in whatever urns/columns/arbors you’re using. For example, if it’s a hot summer’s day, the ceremony florals should wait to be placed no more than an hour before the ceremony.

#6. Are there any industry trends that have recently piqued your interest?

Anne: Sustainability is at the forefront of our designs. Whenever possible, we opt for the most sustainable materials available as well as composting and supporting local growers.

Lynn: I’m loving the trend of color returning! I love love love working with color!

#7. Do you recommend repurposing wedding florals? In what ways do you recommend doing so?

Anne: We love to repurpose whenever possible and practical. It depends on what the final expectations are and if there is enough time to execute the transition. Ceremony flowers and aisle decor are usually most effective when being relocated to the reception.

#8. Are there any floral trends/themes that are popular at Wentworth by the Sea Country Club?

Anne: Using our detached (two-piece) arbor to frame the ceremony, as well as the head table. The New England coastline is always beautiful – using blues, whites and often adding a pastel or a light autumnal shade that complements the ocean backdrop.

Lynn: The tent poles are always a beautiful detail to decorate with greenery, along with decorating the entrance to the tent.

#9. What are the unique ways you’ve seen couples incorporate flowers into their wedding ceremonies and receptions?

Anne: The use of a welcome wall/table seating chart incorporating bud vases with the table number and guest name. This works as a wedding favor, escort card and added table decor.

#10. Which seasonal flowers do you recommend for a New Hampshire wedding in:

May-June:

Anne: Peonies, Lilacs

Lynn: Ranunculus, Tulips, Peonies, Hyacinths, Garden Roses, Sweet Peas

July-August:

Anne: Cosmos, Zinnia, PeeGee Hydrangea, Dahlias, Lysimachia

Lynn: Locally-grown Zinnias, Lisianthus, Celosia
